The anti-Rohingyan violence in Arakan province is directly affecting Rohingyan refugees in Australia.
The family of a Rohingyan refugee, Habibrahman, presently in detention in Darwin Airport Lodge is missing. Habib’s mother, sister are missing since their house was burned down at the start of the violence on 8 June. His aunts and cousins are also missing, as hundreds have been reported killed, and thousands displaced in a government sponsored pogrom.
Over 150 Rohingya Burmese will rally today in Canberra to protest against the discrimination and ethnic cleansing of Rohingya in the Arakan Province.
A bus bringing representatives of Brisbane’s Rohingyan community will arrive in Canberra on Friday 15 June to hold a second day of protests.
Protest in Canberra on Friday will be held at the Myanmar Embassy at 10am and will then march to Parliament House at 11am.
