COMMUNITY PROTEST ACTION against these shameful policies<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sunday 21 October – 1pm at State Library <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Australian government has moved to re-introduce some of the worst aspects of Howards\u2019 \u2018Pacific Solution\u2019 . The intention is for refugees to be dumped for years on Nauru and Manus Island under the \u2018No Advantage\u2019 principle. They will be at risk of malaria and dengue fever, and subjected to hopelessness and despair. The policy is cruel and expensive. <\/strong>Already the total number of asylum seekers who have arrived since 13 August is over 1600, enough to fill Nauru<\/span><\/a>. The quota for Manus Island is likely to be filled in the next week or two at the most. Thousands of asylum seekers face being warehoused in limbo in Australian detention centres. <\/span><\/p>\n

There is substantial opposition to these policies across the community including refugee advocacy groups, church leaders, Amnesty International, Australian Council of Social Services, unions and many other community groups. <\/span><\/p>\n

Join us in <\/span><\/strong>protesting against the re-introduction of these shameful policies<\/span><\/strong>. Last time Howard’s \u2018Pacific Solution\u2019 and anti-refugee policies were beaten, through building a strong refugee rights movement to counter the lies about refugees and expose the misery inflicted by these policies. We must do the same again. These disastrous policies must be stopped. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Action will end with a photo opportunity on Princess Bridge.<\/span><\/p>\n
